Picture it: Tye, Texas--the 1960s-ish... My Granny in her kitchen... The cabinets were Avacodo Green, the countertops a bright orange, when you opened a cabinet- the shelf paper was covered in brown and orange mushrooms. It was super groovy, to say the least. I grew up in that house, the house my daddy grew up in. My room was my aunt Elaine's old room. (it was still Merkel Badger Gold until I was about 12 or 13. hahaha. Dad bought the house from my grandparents, so my poor mom had to deal with the 60s decor until she changed it a few years later.
Friday, while browsing the fabric in Joanne's I came across THE most groovy vintage-look-a-like fabric that I have seen in a while! It reminded me soooo much of my granny's kitchen (and later my mom and dad's kitchen). Well, needless to say, I had to purchase a yard of it. I really want to make myself an apron out of it, but I am a bit sewing challenged. So, from some of the fabric, I decided to make myself a mug rug. I heart these little mug rugs! And because I love mushrooms so much, I decided to make myself a drink coaster as well.

These are the cards that I made with a Starbuck Nutritional Guide. I added sentiments from two Stampin' Up! stamp sets as well. I think they look awesome! Take a special look at that latte with some shimmer mist! It looks just like I spilled latte on it! hehehe--LOVE IT!
These were super fast to put together! I even made a small pocketed card for a gift card! mmm mmm mmmmm!

Inspiration can come from anywhere, even at your local Starbucks!!

A few weeks ago, I was hanging out in Southlake TownSquare with my boyfriend. We decided to have an after dinner tea at our fav Starbucks. Since I have been dieting, I decided to pick up their latest nutrition guide. I browsed through it and put it on my desk so that I could really go over it later.

Today, cleaning off all the unwanted things from my desk, I ran across this guide. It had a really cool pattern on it.... and the inspiration came! I've decided to use that as a background paper for cards! Think about it: Who doesn't like FREE paper!? So, I'm cutting it down, tossing the excess and using it to make a few cards. The great thing about card making is that the paper doesn't have to be acid free! We aren't putting pics on them, so there is no reason to use photosafe items! My challenge to my readers (as few as their may be) is to put your FREE resources to use! TRASH TO TREASURE Baby!

This Wednesday was my niece and nephew's 4th birthday. They had a little party at Chuck E Cheese! A little pizza and a few presents make a couple of really happy kids.

As You can see in the pics above-- I made my girl TONS of Barbie clothes and accessories!

Her favorite older cousins out-did me and gave her the sweetest Barbie Horse and carriage and another really cute barbie. So-- the next day I get the sweetest phone call. It was my little lady telling me that the clothes I made were adorable.

I'll tell you what is adorable-- a 4 year old saying adorable!! hahhaa

So, I just had to show off my girl opening the present that I worked so hard on for the last month.

My oh my how sewing gives me a headache. Since I was a kid I tried my hand at sewing and have been relatively unsuccessful. There was even a crying fit to my mom to get her to sew my home-ec project in high school. It wasn't pretty, but she helped. She did make me do some of it, but the reality is, she totally finished it. haha. I love her for that! But before highschool, I wanted to make doll clothes. A fashion victim from the start, yep, that was me!

When I was a kid, I loved playing with my Barbies. The problem was, my dad hated them, so I was banned from buying any more due to, what he considered, and over purchase of my allowance money. I spent $30.00 on a Jordash barbie. She was a cheerleader Barbie, pom poms, skirt, sweater, and this weird little leaver on her back that made her arms go up and down.

Since I wasn't allowed to purchase another Barbie, I didn't get any more Barbie clothes or accessories. That led me to raid an old clothes stash and make my own barbie clothes. At the time, Unit clothing was quite popular. It was the 80's, what can I say? So, I made lots of dresses and tied stashes of ribbon or strips of material around the waiste of my doll.

Fast forward to today: It's a lazy Sunday. I have collected stashes of fabric from here and there, all with the grand plans of making something someday. Did I mention that I really can't sew?? Ya-- let me mention it again.

I have been working on my neice's Birthday and Christmas present for a few weeks. She is a (almost) 4 yr old who adores Justin Beiber and barbie. Equally. So, to be a great aunt, and to be loved by her neice, I set out to make Barbie (but not Justin) outfits. I even went so far as to purchase a few patterns. (*I was overly ambitious and bought some patterns, since they were on sale, for myself- my own tops and pants- HAH-- I think that will be disasterous-- but we shall see!)

My adventures today consisted of sewing skirts-- without patterns. I have kind of come up with my own idea that involves gathering of fabric-- which I am NO good at. I keep trying, hoping to get it right. so-- this is what I have come up with. I have added a little ribbon ties to cute it up a bit!

Ssssshhhhh... Don't tell my lil Gracie. I want her to be suprised next week. Her twin bro isn't getting doll clothes. He is just getting transformers-- boys are easier like that. lol Not as many acessories.

A girl and Barbie needs. Made some stuff for my neice. I've posted on 365 days of crafting as well. All made from cardboard, batting, fabric, and lots of glue and sewing, except for the dresser. That was a recycled jewelry box. I sure hope she likes it!!

So-- The point of this blog is to USE WHATCHU GOT! Make something crafty and creative everyday out of things around your house, things you have already purchased, ect... I like it.

Todays project: On-going work on a scrapbook that I am making for my friend Kelly's new baby. She doesn't have much time, and I lknow that she loves crafty creative things, and well-- this is my new neice practically.

Pretty simple-- but cute, right? Hey-- I didn't say these crafts were going to be over-elaborate. I just said that it was going to be a craft.

On a funnier note-- I had a craft FAIL when trying to come up with something really good for my first craft. FAIL FAIL FAIL. Shrinky Dink-- not my friend. I have tried everything to come up with something cool.
Here is my FAIL:

I drew some cool zebrah print design with colored sharpies. I punched a whole in them thinking that they might make some really super cool necklaces. Ya-- not so much. I couldnt make these things look cool if I wanted to. I may have to call on my friend Joette who is an awesome jewelry maker to see if she can come up with some cool use for these puppies.
There were a few pretty big CRAFT FAILs using this stuff yesterday. I was convinced something cool would happen. Never did. I will continue on my search. I am sure something cool will happen eventually.

I need a project. No, I need a BIG project.

I have been wondering around aimlessly for a while, trying to find some kind of greatness within. I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching, even going through some “life training” : Pathways. Ask me about it- I will tell you more… but this isn’t about that. This is about me. This is about finding my passions in life and taking them to a new level.

I am passionate about something I deem as nerdy: Art. I am an an Art dork.
I’m setting a goal for myself: In the spirit of Julie & Julia, as well as my new fav blog: Dress a Day, I will be blogging about 365 days of craft projects- ON A BUDGET (interesting little caveat, eh?). They can be BIG, they can be small, but there will be one a day, and I will blog about them, and post on the creation of the project, because sometimes the artistry is found in the technique rather than the end result.

I’m really inspired to finish something I start. This is a big deal for me… so, I hope that you will join me and pass my humble little blog around if you like it, let me know if you hate it!

So, that being said—in the word’s of one of my favorite Beastie Boys’s song: “She's crafty - she's gets around, She's crafty - she's always down”

So, I know that we (my stamp club) has been talking about getting together to do some sewing projects.. and this is one that we discussed. I knew that I really wanted to make something for my mom, and this is some fabric I thought she might like :) Hope she doesnt see this post! hahaha! I don't think she looks at my blog. She isn't much of a computer junky like the rest of us!
So--what do you think? It's my first rag bag! I have learned a few new tricks that I am going to use the next time. I used my Big Shot to cut out the scalloped squares. and then I quilted them and put them all together! It only took me a couple of hours.. so, I'm pretty happy with the outcome!! YESSSSSSSSSS! My first successful sewing project.

So, this is made from some remnant fabric of my very very favorite print at the moment and some out of fashion capris. Lol, I am queen of refashioning right now.. now if I can only just make CLOTHES for myself instead of handbags. LOL--- handbags just seem to be easy. I can fly by the seat of my pants, which is exactly what I am doing at this point. hahah-- still havent gotten the hang of those darn patterns. UGH.

I really wanted to sew today. I had a few things that I wanted to work on. I know most women my age are married with kids, and it's usually the kids that demand their attentions. Not me, always have to be different. It's my kitten that keeps distracting me today. Wyatt is a little pest and has almost gotten his paw sewn a few times today. But--I did get some cute little costers done. Will take some pics and post them tomorrow-- if anyone really wants to see them.

Today-- I successfully made a cute fulle. Now, if I could only do this on a longer scale.

Until then... My experimental handbag begins with a handle. hahah Probably the last thing I should do on the bag-- but hey-- when have I ever done something normal and in the right order?

April told me something the other day that I thought about and thought about... She said-- you like structure at work-- ya-- I do. "But in every other Aspect you don't. Sometimes you just have to follow the instructions." So-- my question is WHY??? I know -- as she reads this she thinks to herself-- "she is always so rebellious."

I never thought of myself as a rebel.. just creative. So-- in effort to be creative and anti-establishment.. I started on a purse that has no rules.... of course-- this is mainly because I don't know what the heck I am doing-- or what the rules of sewing really are!

Without further ado-- here is the handle of the non-existant purse. Working on the purse design. Hope you like it... Threw in a little ribbon I use for scrapbooking.. aaaah-- all of these "craft investments" are paying off!!

Colors are a really pretty celery green and -- my signature argyle! :) I think that's going to have to be a part of my Boojie Bags collection. Oh ya, that's gonna be my brand name (Boojie Bags). What do you think?

Today I received my order from January's stamp club. I'm super amped about the new clear mounted stamps! As a matter of fact, I am so amped about it, I'm gonna show you how these work.

One of the benefits of purchasing clear mount stamp is the size! These baby's take no more room than a DVD! (if you have ever been in my craft room, you would know that with over 100 stamp sets, I just don't have the room.) This is going to make storage SO much better!

This is the clear block (purchased from a local craft store). I already had them on hand, but Stampin' Up carries a great selection too.

This is what the stamp looks like. pretty cute, right?!

The stamp will adhere to the acrylic block much like cling film to windows. SUPER easy! no fuss, no muss!

Just ink up, like you would any wood mounted stamp. (this block is a little big for this stamp, but you get the idea.)

Another great benefit of clear mounting is that you can see exactly where you are stamping, making it super easy to get the correct placement, making your projects look perfect everytime!

Check out this end result! PERFECT!

Let me just say: Thank you Stampin' Up! for catching on to this great trend in stamping, but keeping that great quality rubber that makes their stamps superior! They even dropped the cost for these sets a little bit.

So, my deals of the day:

3 super cute frames -- my plan is to paint them silver or gold.. heck maybe even glitter them all over, and use them to display holiday words. Boo, Joy, ect.. you get the idea.

IPOD Nano covers.. ooooh the possibilities. If you are like me, you never leave home without the IPOD. Well, the Dollar Tree beside my house is selling clear IPOD nano Cases. I bought two clear ones and a cute pink case that will clip to my jeans if I'm out working in the yard or walking or something. I am going to trace the window and the menu circle and cut those out... leaving the rest of the IPOD. I'm then going to cut out my favorite scrapbooking patterned paper and make some IPOD Wall Paper. HOW CUTE IS THAT??? **Ya-- I won't take credit for it. I saw this on someone eles's blog, so this isn't a Melli Original. But-- when I am finished -- I will have the cutest IPOD in town.. hehe!

Last but not least... They had some greeeat little Christmas mugs there. I didnt get them yet-- because they were still setting up the display when I walked in, but these little white coffee mugs with red snowflakes would make the cuuuutest gifts. Just add your favorite Hot Chocolate recipe and stamp a cutesy tag and you are off!! a gift for less than $2.00! In this economy, who can't afford to slim down the price tags a little bit!

My other deals for today: faaaaaabric! I went to Joanne's, they had fabric remnants half off-- then half off again! I got the sweeeetest White suede for just a couple of bucks. I plan on making a couple of stockings with them. How sweeeeet would that be???? Loooove it! I think I am going to have to go back and buy some feux fur for the tops.. hmmm.. I'm just coming up with ideas as we speak. lol-- reminds me of that song: apple bottom jeeeeans boots with the fuuur... Melli: stockings with the furrrrr, the whole club is lookin at herrrr.

Now-- lets just hope I can sew! hahaha... it's a new venture for me. I'm hopeful. And-- If only my friends new sewing club will commence! hahaha

Ok, so I haven't posted anything in a while. I have worked on a few projects, nothing worth really posting. So-- in the spirit of posting something-- good or just ok, I am posting my yummy cupcakes that I made for the girls tonight.

I saw Bride-zilla a few months back, and the girl was GAGA over Tiffany blue. To be honest, I kinda love the color too. If I ever marry, which is highly doubtful, I want Tiffany and Co. Blue Cupcakes as my wedding cake. I think it would be adorable, easy to serve, ect. In the spirit of this lovely lovely color.. I decided to make the icing for tonights Girls Night In that color!

They are simple, nothing fancy-- but classic. I did a few with a different layering effect, just to play around, but my favorites, are the classic round swirl.

So, last weekend, I purchased some wooden TV trays at a garage sale for 7.. count em.. 7 bucks! woo wooooo. I use these things all the time. I know-- I'm such a Couch potato sometimes!
So-- here are some pictures of what i did to these little guys to class em up a bit!

I painted them black, added a little gold painted stencil and there you have it!

To be honest, I'm still not quite finished with them, I still need to do the bottoms of the legs. and spray three of them with the poly. that I purchased... also... you cant really see in the finished product pics- but i dry brushed some of the gold paint on the edges too... i like the way it looks!! :)

Today is a bitter sweet day for me. I arrived home this weekend, from a fun time with my family at my Granny's house in Brownwood, Tx, with a new gift.
A little more than a year ago, I showed my sweet grandpa Willie a picture of this Crafty Carousel. He asked for a few supplies to make sure the measurements would be ok for my favorite products, and away he went.
Last November, my grandparents had a car accident that left my grandfather a bit less than his normal industrious self. (a concussion and broken bones will do that to the best of us!!) It was so close to Christmas, and he was almost finished with my present, he was disappointed that it wasn't going to be completed, due to his condition.
June 3rd, the best Grandpa anyone could ask, for passed away. I see him, and my Granny, in all my artsty stuff- I think I aquired this talent from both my grandparents on Dad's side, and my my Mom's side. They were always making cool stuff, and it was very inspiring to grow up around such talented and inventive people. I feel lucky for every day that I had/have with my family.
My Granny finished up the Craft Carousels, one for my mom, one for me, and they look incredible. I'm pleased to have this on my desk, pleased to know that I will use it everyday, and more pleased to know that my Grandparents love me so much, and think I am special enough to work so hard on something I really wanted and will love forever!
I'm tearing up right now just thinking about the hard work they put into this.
So, as I post this picture today- I say a huge thanks to my Granny and Willie for all their hard work on this and other projects. I love you both forever and ever. I miss you Willie!

Christmas in July Gift Exchange/...

My friend Amy hosted a Christmas in July gift exchange this week. It was fun so fun and festive, I totally want to throw one next year! I forgot how fun it is to get together and do exchanges, and now -- in the middle of July, I am totally ready for Christmas to be here!! :) (well-- for the hot weather to be over anyway!!)

I have been at my grandmothers for the last few days. I noticed all the owls around her house. I remember seeing owls and mushrooms all around her house when I was growing up. So, my latest obsession with Owl images kind of makes sense! I'm just carrying on a family tradition!! :)

Something old... Something NEW!

I purchased this shelving last year, but couldn't get it together and hung up. I am cordless drill challenged. Fortunately, I was able to borrow my friend's husband this week to put them up! It was a lot of work for him-- but I am sooo gratefull (this is going to require a batch of cookies and whatever else I can think of).

I pulled out some jars that I had been saving, as well as a few jars that I got for my b-day (Thanks Joette!) I separated my ribbon in colors-- lots of work-- but it will pay off when I have to go looking for a specific ribbon color!! **It already paid off when I was looking for ribbon to decorate some containers! WOOHOOOOO

As all of you probably know, I am a Stampin' Up Demonstrator. I'm very fortunate to have a great bunch of girls to get creative with. I hope that I am able to inspire them the way that other crafting artists inspire me!

Every month, I host a Sassy Stampers Stamp Club in my home. It's a lot of fun (and a lot of hard work to prep for). May was exceptionally easy for me because there was virtually nothing to prepare! I think I need to do this sort of thing every 6 months or so-- because it was soooooo low stress for me, and soooo much fun to do.

As requested by the greatest bunch of stampin gals around, we made card boxes! As you can see by the pics, these boxes turned out ADORABLE! * I even made a few little accessories to go with my box..... SO STINKING CUTE, if I do say so myself! :)

This is going to be the inspiration for my extra bedroom. I am thinking aobut making it Black, White, and REDDDD. (with Tan walls) haha.. I have a ton of cool Asian stuff, but I would love to add animal print in.. hmmm.. how to incorporate??

Since my grandfather's illness has hastened itself over the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking a lot about my time with him and the moments that I treasure most.

Both my Granny and Willie (grandpa) are very do-it-yourself kind of people. They make everything from stained glass to wooden game boards. It's been my pleasure, all of my life, to benefit and share in their creative nature.

Some of my favorite family memories are of the family gathered around the table playing a card, domino, board, or dice game. The latest game for the family is called Fast Track. Its a marble/card game. My grandfather made the boards and gave them to several family members 2 years ago for Christmas. Needless to say- we are all addicted to the game.

Having said that, this card grouping was inspired by my grandpa Willie, the greatest grandpa in the world. I'm so very fortunate to have had an opportunity to get to know such a funny and creative person. I am grateful for every day that he is in our lives.
